Classic Cocktail with a Twist

Sazerac

The official cocktail of New Orleans, Sazerac is likely one of the most well established cocktails in history. A stiff drink that many trace back to the late 1800’s, it’s a simple, yet incredibly well-balanced cocktail that truly elevates rye whiskey.

Ways to Enjoy a Sazerac Bourbon Cocktail

Giving a unique flavor combination, there are a range of ways you can enjoy a bourbon Sazerac from pairings to how it is served. Here are some of our top tips for elevating your Sazerac Cocktail experience.

How to serve a Sazerac Cocktail

Making sure that your glass is chilled prior to serving will help balance the warmth from the high alcohol content. A bourbon Sazerac is sipped slowly in an old-fashioned glass, this is because of the low liquid volume of the cocktail and the wide-rim allowing you to appreciate the aroma whilst drinking. Sazerac Cocktails are often paired with a glass of water on the side, this is to sip alongside for your preferred dilution.

The taste, smell, and look of a bourbon Sazerac

Providing it has been well strained, your Sazerac Cocktail should be clear with no bits or sediment. Your drink will be a rich golden brown, provided by the ANGEL’S ENVY Bourbon finished in Port wine barrels and you may see traces of an absinthe coating, creating the unique Sazerac look. The smell of a Sazerac Cocktail is a key part of the sensory experience, the toasted nuts and light vanilla aroma from the bourbon will come through, along with anise notes from the absinthe and citrus from the lemon zest.

The taste of a Sazerac is complex (and not for the faint of heart), you should taste the richness of the bourbon combined with the herbal flavors from the absinthe, balanced by the sweetness of the added syrup.
