Classic Cocktail with a Twist

Manhattan

Nobody really knows who made the first Manhattan, but thanks to the name, we’ve got a good guess on where it came from. A cocktail cornerstone, this bourbon-forward beverage has been iterated upon for years. But as a toast to its original inception, we recommend the Manhattan recipe below.

Ways to Enjoy a Manhattan Cocktail

Your bourbon Manhattan should be amber in color and have a rich and warm hue. The sweet vermouth will provide a fruity and herbal taste, whilst the ANGEL’S ENVY Bourbon will complement with a mellow sweetness, and finally, the contrast of the bitters creates this warm, bittersweet beverage. There are a variety of ways you can enjoy this bourbon-based cocktail, however, here are some of our favorites.

Perfect pairings with a Manhattan cocktail

Cheese – A strong blue cheese will complement and contrast the rich taste of the bourbon and sweetness of the vermouth in your Manhattan.

Dark Chocolate – The bittersweet notes of the chocolate will complement the cocktail’s flavors.

Figs and Dates – These sweet fruits are a great option to pair with a bourbon Manhattan, complimenting the notes of the drink.

Oysters – For those who want to indulge in ultimate luxury, oysters can contrast with the cocktail’s sweetness and enhance its depth of flavor

How to serve your Manhattan

Choose the correct glassware – although your Manhattan made with ANGEL’s ENVY will undoubtedly taste delicious regardless of the glass, choosing the correct glassware will enhance the tasting experience. A Manhattan should be served in a Martini glass or coupe, the wide bowl allows you to take in the aroma and accommodates the serving size.

Commonly Asked Questions

What is the difference between a perfect and sweet Manhattan?

The key difference between a perfect and sweet Manhattan is the vermouth used. Our Manhattan recipe uses sweet vermouth to complement the ANGEL’S ENVY Bourbon finished in Port wine barrels. A sweet Manhattan is rich in taste and you guessed it – sweet. A perfect Manhattan, however, uses both sweet red vermouth and dry white vermouth, making the cocktail drier with more herbal notes.

How many times do you stir a Manhattan?

To chill the drink and blend the ingredients to perfection, we recommend stirring your Manhattan cocktail for 20-25 seconds. Most importantly – do. not. shake.

Is bourbon or whiskey better for a Manhattan?

This completely depends on your personal preferences and tastes. However, for the perfect sweet Manhattan cocktail, bourbon is definitely the go-to. The full-bodied, fruitier profile of our bourbon with notes of vanilla and maple, makes for a delicious drink.
